Life Drawing

Image
Scrimping a bit on life drawing and not attending classes at the mo. I could really do with the practice, so have resorted to drawing the unsuspecting public. Here's some of the less embarrassing efforts!

'Tis the season to be Jolly

Image
… falalalala lalalala So according to my advent calendar it's December already. This year is truly whizzing by, and so many exciting things have happened! To name a few: graduating from university, beginning work as a Freelance Illustrator and (most excitingly) adopting a cat. This year rather than going for my usual handmade Christmas cards, the standard glitter-fest, I've printed a few digital designs. They shall be zooming their way to friends and family very soon. Well, now that they've been papped with the obligatory Christmas baubles anyway. Merry Christmas!

Raccoon

Big apologies for not posting in a while, life has gotten pretty busy! I hope this raccoon related post makes things better.

Sad Squirrel

Down to his last nut. Oh the drama! I stuck up the initial sketch too, interesting to see the process.

Rabbits

Image
After a quick flick through the sketch book I realised I've been drawing a lot of rabbits.  Bunnies for everyone!

A tucan of gratitude?

Cats

Image
At the moment I'm in the process of sorting through all of my old things, and I've found a few masterpieces that the world needs to see! I should probably mention that I've always mildly obsessed over both drawing and cats, drawing cats especially. Emily, aged 6 - 8 years.

A quick illustration for you... Run Pear, run!

Degree Show

Image
Hi Bloggers, apologies - long time no post. Big news: I've officially finished my degree in Illustration! I've been enjoying Cornwall's one (and only?) week of sunshine, but rest assured I'm still drawing and writing. Last week the Degree Show went up, and I thought I'd share a few snaps. The Falmouth FineArt and Illustration Degree Show is open Sat 15th - Wed 19th June if you happen to be down in Cornwall and *spoiler alert* the show is looking pretty darn good. Do pop along, it would be great to see you!

Sketch Book

Image
Sometimes I forget to share my drawings and scribbles, which is bonkers because I draw all the time. I've scanned a few pages from my diary, hope you enjoy / are interested!  (drawings are mostly straight from my head, and a few observational-ish)

'Quotes & Sayings' no.8

Image
Yesterday was an exciting day because copies of the 'Illustrated Book of Quotes and Sayings' finally arrived! Its nice to see my zoo  illustration in a book. I'll be toting copies around London next week, hopefully finding a few nice new homes. Its a super cool book, show casing Falmouth Illustration students. Everyone should buy a copy. :-)

Mini and Max

Image
Hi Bloggers! I thought it was about time to post my latest picture book, incidentally the last book of my degree. Dum dum duuum! I had fun making this one. It sounds cheesy, but I found writing it came naturally. Although I should probably add it is only 50 words long. The story stars a small, quiet, borderline obsessive-compulsive cat called Mini and a large, loud, undeniably mucky pup named Max. They have their ups and they have their downs, but despite all their differences they still remain the best of friends. Life is a bumpy road, right? NB: Mini and Max are 100% inspired by my good friends Max and George . Credit where credit is due.

Illustration Friday 'Train'

Image
I really fancied doing Illustration Friday this week, haven't done it in a while.  This super motivated cat is training hard! www.illustrationfriday.com

Business Time?

Image
Want to hear something pretty darn scary? I'm now in my last ever term at uni. I've somehow managed to pull together everything a budding illustrator might need: Website Business Cards Promo Sheets Portfolio Dummy Books I think I'm just about ready to do this thing! Stay tuned for more info about upcoming exhibitions and design shows...

The Wind in the Willows

Image
When scribbling the layout for this book cover I envisaged colouring it in summery greens and yellows... Some where along the line it turned dark. And purple. Then I went the whole hog and went for a bit of zingy lime.  Hopefully it still makes you think Wind in the Willows?

Bologna Book Fair

Image
Hello Bloggers! Last week I went to my first ever book fair. For some reason I decided to jump in at the deep end and went to the ginormous Bologna Book Fair , no really, it was genuinely huge. Prepare yourself for a monster post... It was the 50th annual fair, I have my suspicions that it may have been even busier than usual. The fair took place over 4 days and 6 big warehouses. I felt as though I walked for miles, and I probably did. Maybe its all a ploy to keep Illustrators fit and healthy?  This year's guest country was Sweden and there was a small exhibition of Swedish Illustrators. I ended up buying the accompanying Illustrators index - one pricey book, but definitely worth it. The fair was a real eye opener into the larger world of children's books and illustration. It was also interesting to experience the commercial side of illustration. I went with my talented Illustrator buddies  Annaliesse , Martha and Kate , and we bumped into the lovely
